Harriet Tubman was born in 1820 in Dorchester, Maryland. As a child, Harriet worked as a slave, had little schooling, and received severe punishment. Although she was a runaway slave, she committed herself to helping a lot of other people. She became the Conductor of the Underground Railroad helping other runaway slaves escape to freedom. Harriet was a humanitarian and worked as a scout, nurse, and spy for the United States Army.

Harriet impacted others' lives by risking her own life to help other slaves escape. She helped over 300 slaves escape to freedom. One famous quote by Harriet is "We saw the lightning and that was guns and then we heard the thunder and that was the big guns and then we heard the rain falling and that was the blood falling and when we came to get in the crops it was dead men that we reaped".
